- General Program
- Camp Whitman offers many summer opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, ages 11-60, to enjoy him/herself in a camping program. Campers are encouraged to participate in a full range of activities including games, sports, crafts, swimming, singing, and dancing. Because the camps are small, we have a low camper to counselor ration, and all have a chance to know one another and form close friendships. Choose the program(s) based on your interests and age group and join us for fun and fellowship by the shores of Seneca Lake.
- Requirements for Attendance
- All campers must be able to walk at least ¼ mile at a reasonable pace over uneven terrain multiple times per day. Campers must be continent and fully independent with all personal care skills including showering, dressing, toileting, and eating. We cannot accept campers with significant behavior issues or a history of aggression. If the staff decides that a camper is unable to fit within our program, the camper will be sent home and no refund will be issued. The ability to understand directions and communicate basic needs is essential for a successful camp experience. New campers over the age of 60 will not be accepted. Please call if you have questions about these requirements.
- Cost
- The cost of a week’s program is $395.00. A non-refundable deposit of $200.00 is required two weeks from the date listed on your acceptance letter. The remaining cost fee of $195.00 is due four weeks prior to the camp session and is non-refundable. If the camper should not complete a full week of camp for any reason, there will be no refund.
- Staff
- We maintain a 5:1 or lower camper to staff ratio and employ counselors with experience and interest in working with people with developmental disabilities. There is a nurse on-site at all times and the pool and waterfront are staffed by certified lifeguards. All staff are trained and supported by a Program Coordinator with relevant education and experience in therapeutic recreation.
- Sponsorship
- The camp is sponsored by the Presbytery of Geneva and the Presbytery of Genesee Valley of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
