Camp Whitman’s 2008 Christian Summer Camps
For Developmentally Disabled Youth & Adults
- Purpose
- To give the developmentally disabled youth/adult, ages 10-60, the opportunity to enjoy him/herself in a camping program. Campers are encouraged to participate in a full range of activities including games, sports, swimming, singing, and dancing. Because the camps are fairly small, we have a low camper to counselor ratio, and all have a chance to know one another and form close friendships.
The camper must be able to understand directions and communicate basic needs. The camper must be independent in toileting and other self-care skills, and must be able to walk a moderate distance, due to the fact the camp facilities are spread out over a large area. The camper needs to walk to the shower house, bathroom and dining facilities. Independent mobility is a must!
- Cost
- The cost of each week’s program is $385 and is required immediately following notification of acceptance (by June 1st). $250.00 of the registration fee is non-refundable. No refund for cancellation 14 days or less prior to camp.
- Staff & Other Personnel
- The camps are staffed by both professional people who have worked with the developmentally disabled and by people who are interested in working with people with special needs. This summer, a specially qualified Coordinator of Camps for the Developmentally Disabled will be on-site all summer.
- Camp Whitman is staffed during the summer with a full-time kitchen staff. There will also be a full-time nurse on duty the entire week, and certified lifeguards at the pool and waterfront.
- Sponsorship
- The camp is sponsored by the Presbytery of Geneva and the Presbytery of Genesee Valley of the Presbyterian Church, USA.
