Spend the summer on the scenic shores of Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of Western New York. Camp Whitman is licensed by the New York State Department of Health, and is inspected twice yearly.
Where applicable, applicants must meet New York State Department of Health’s Children’s Camp Staff Requirements.

Camp Counselor
- June 28–August 21, 2009
- $2,000 plus Room and Board
Minimum qualifications:
- Minimum of 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
- A sincere Commitment to the Christian faith and outdoor ministry
- Experience in working with children and youth and/or experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Desire to work with campers of varying ages, backgrounds, interests, and abilities.
- Good health that enables one to live and work in a rustic outdoor setting for eight weeks
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision

Job Responsibilities
- Live with a group of campers (youth and adults with and without developmental disabilities) on a 24-hour basis and (with a co-counselor) provide supervision and behavior management in the living unit, at program areas, and in the dining hall.
- Take 2 hours of break time at the Program Manager’s discretion during daylight hours.
- Participate in general planning of camp activities with Program Manager, Weekly Volunteers, co-counselors, and camper input.
- Help design and lead activities for people of all abilities related to art, music, recreation, sports, team building, camping, nature exploration, swimming, and boating.
- Take primary responsibility for implementing the camp curriculum. This will involve sharing your faith journey and facilitating small group discussions and worship experiences.
- Relate to each camper to ensure their adjustment to camp and participation in camp activities. Encourage respectful, inclusive social interactions between campers.
- Assist with camper personal care as needed, including providing verbal prompts, instruction, and occasional hands-on assistance with dressing, toileting, showering and eating.
- Serve as a good example to campers in personal language, appearance and health habits.
- Follow all camp policies and regulations as found in the Camp Whitman Procedures Manual.
- Maintain open and constructive communication with the entire Camp Staff.
- Maintain good public relations with camper’s parents.
- Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
- Communicate regularly with the Program Manager and the Camp Leadership Team to carry out camp program, and to identify and solve problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Head Cook
- June 28–August 21, 2009
- $4,000 plus Room and Board
The Head Cook is responsible for meal and snack planning and preparation for groups of 30 to 95 campers and staff. This includes maintaining an appropriate inventory of food and supplies, using resources effectively, and working with the Program Manager on special meals for cookouts, hikes, etc. The Head Cook is also responsible for the cleanliness and order of the kitchen, kitchen equipment, and for the appropriate storage of food. The Head Cook trains and supervises the kitchen staff, who assist with food preparation, serving, dishwashing, and kitchen and dining hall cleanup.
Minimum qualifications
- Minimum of 25 years of age & a High School graduate or equivalent and a clean driving record.
- Desire and ability to work in a camp setting.
- Experience in working with children and youth and/or experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
- Training and experience in cooking for large groups.
- Knowledge of standards of food preparation, serving and kitchen procedures,
- CPR and First Aid certification
- Previous administrative or supervisory experience.
- Ability to give and accept guidance and supervision.
- Good communication and team building skills.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Must enjoy being around children and have enthusiasm, a sense of humor, flexibility, and patience.

Job Responsiblilities
- Supervise all kitchen staff and the over-all kitchen operation.
- Maintain a sanitary and pleasant environment for the preparation and enjoyment of meals.
- Maintain, with the help of other kitchen staff, all kitchen equipment.
- Plan and prepare 3 well-balanced meals a day, being aware of special dietary concerns wherever possible.
- Prepare/supervise preparation, holding and service of food in accordance with New York State Department of Health and Food Link requirements (Must attend mandatory training to receive food handling certification).
- Inventory management and ordering of food products, paper products and cleaning supplies.
- Work within budgetary framework for food and supplies.
- Develop menus that support programmatic themes and adapt to available food sources in consultation with the Program Manager and the Camp Leadership Team.
- Coordinate all cook-out meals and snacks
- Supervise the general cleaning of the kitchen, dining hall and laundry area, keeping these areas sanitary, inviting, and safe.
- Maintain clear and organized records and required NYSDOH forms.
- Serve as a good example to campers in personal language, appearance and health habits.
- Follow all camp policies and regulations as found in the Camp Whitman Procedures Manual.
- Maintain open and constructive communication regularly with the entire Camp Staff.
- Work closely with the Program Manager and the Camp Leadership Team in the general planning of all related activities, and assist to identify and solve problems.
- At the end of the camp season take inventory, clean and close kitchen and store excess items.

- Responsible, along with other kitchen staff, to insure the cleanliness of the dining hall and kitchen area.
